Pet Art!

  • Published February 3rd, 2015 by Liz

A new division of Waring Portrait.  I'm so excited about this venture.  It all started when I  created a pop art image of my grand dog Annie!  Since then I've had several requests to create one-of-a-kind, custom images of other pets.

Starting with a photograph, lines, paints and textures are added by hand digitally, using a stylus which responds like a pencil or paintbrush.  Far from a push-button filter, the image consists of great detail and takes hours to create.  The effects can be bold, pop art, or more subtle and realistic.  Proofs with various unique backgrounds are submitted for final selection.

Prices start at $225  for a  12 x 12 canvas and larger sizes are available.  Fee is $75 for us to take the photos of your pet in local area  to begin the art, or you may submit your high resolution snapshot via email without charge.  Extra pet in image $75.

Of course, I'm still making images of children and families.  And yes, I'd love to create a special image of your "best friend!"   Scroll below to see some of these wonderful pets.

Smiles at Farmers Market New Smyrna Beach

  • Published April 14th, 2012 by Liz

How often do we count our blessings?  Daily, I strive to be thankful for the happiness in so many dimensions of my life and in particular for family, friends, and the enchantment photography has been for me for countless years.  I began to think of a way to reach out to others using my photography in a random way to spread good feelings.

Rather than the time usually devoted to photographic art with clients and using my large professional camera, I decided just using my snapshot camera would be a great and fun way to interact with people to spread smiles in a random act of kindness way.

The following idea bubbled up in my at a certain location, look for the first of six people passing by wearing a pink shirt and ask for permission to pose with a smile for my blog, holding a heart/love painting.  In return, they would be thanked with a little gift card to a donut and coffee shop.  Name, address and other particulars not needed...just an exchange of smiles and a wish to have a nice day!

The Farmer's Market at New Smyrna Beach I selected for the location.  Held every Saturday morning, it's a great place to be and was recently voted the best farmer's market in all of central Florida, by an Orlando publication.  Holly is always there with her beautiful display of magnificent orchids, Patrick plays his happy steel drum music, and the various booths are filled with abundant produce and tempting culinary treats such a fresh breads and coffees, hand rolled pretzels, delcious oriental spring rolls, freshly caught fish, a myriad of other delights and of course, various craft booths.

With the possibility of rain, and many of the snowbirds having left, there weren't as many people at the market at usual.  Most everyone was wearing white - and I had decided the random criteria would be pink!  However, within forty minutes, my self-assignment was finished.  And I just had to include the stately boxer dog who strolled by sporting a pink bandana!  Thanks to all for your nice smiles for my blog here!
